To address physical limitations or ensure the sound quality of your instrument, a handpan stand is an essential accessory.
Playing the handpan sitting or standing
Beyond showcasing your instrument, a handpan stand is ideal for comfortable playing. Say goodbye to postural constraints, whether you're playing sitting or standing. The tripod allows you to maintain your percussion instrument at an optimal height while maintaining a natural posture that allows for freedom of movement. Muscle fatigue is reduced, even during extended practice.
A good stand also ensures the stability of your handpan. The instrument remains perfectly still while playing, allowing you to fully concentrate on your music and play with complete freedom. This is ideal for progressing quickly and under optimal conditions.
Preserving the sound quality and condition of the instrument
Placing your handpan on an unsuitable surface risks damaging it: gradual detuning when falling down, loss of resonance, scratches, or impacts. It can also cause unwanted vibrations while playing. A quality stand guarantees optimal acoustics while protecting the instrument from surfaces that could impair its sound.
Several types of tripods exist, each suited to different uses of the handpan. Whether metal or wood, each model has its advantages.
Adjustable tripod stands
Metal or aluminum handpan stands are very practical. They are easily adjustable in height, lightweight, and durable. Whether you're a professional musician on stage or a traveling musician, you'll appreciate their foldable design, which makes them easy to transport. These stands adapt to your playing style and offer all the flexibility and simplicity you need.
Wooden stands
Wooden handpan stands have the advantage of being sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. Made from solid wood such as oak or walnut, they add a warm touch. These foldable tripods protect the instrument's sound well and are ideal for playing at home or in the studio.
1. Depending on the handpan model
One of the important criteria for choosing a handpan stand is that it fits the instrument well. Stands differ in weight capacity, size, and shape. Be sure to check the exact dimensions of your handpan before buying. Choosing a stand without checking can make the instrument unstable and affect its sound.
2. Depending on the playing environment
Choosing a handpan stand also depends on where you play. While lightness and portability are important for stage musicians, this isn't necessarily the case for home use. And if you often play outdoors, remember to check the maintenance requirements to prevent the stand from deteriorating too quickly.
3. Depending on technical criteria
Finally, choosing a handpan stand also depends on its technical specifications. Is its height adjustable? Is it lightweight and easy to transport thanks to a folding system? Take the time to compare these details to choose a stand that truly meets your needs.
