Handpans with bottom notes

A bottom-note handpan refers to a model that has additional notes placed on the underside of the instrument. Compared to a standard handpan, where the notes are only placed on the upper part (called the top shell), this model adds a second playing space under the instrument (bottom shell), generally accessible when the handpan is placed on the lap or on an open stand.

These low tones often take the form of small tuned cavities, arranged in an arc or symmetrically around the central hole (Gu) located under the musical device. Visually, we imagine a handpan with two faces: the top for the melody, the bottom for the harmonic extensions.
