Protective cases for handpans come in various forms. Soft cases are lighter and easier to transport. They are particularly useful for short, frequent trips that don't require heavy-duty protection. Soft bags are also easily foldable and therefore easy to store.

Hard cases and shells offer better protection. They are preferred for long-distance transport, during which the instrument is at risk of damage. They provide maximum protection against shocks and possible falls. For occasional use of the instrument, hard cases also protect the handpan from the external environment (humidity, dust, temperatures), which can affect the metal and the sound quality of the instrument.

Protective Oils

Since the steel of the handpan is susceptible to oxidation, using products such as protective oils is the best way to keep the instrument in good condition and prevent external aggressions. They are generally used to prevent corrosion, fingerprints, and premature wear of the steel.

These protective oils are composed of natural ingredients and essential oils with antibacterial properties. Their role is to create a protective barrier on the instrument, without leaving a greasy residue.

Before applying the protective oil, it is of course necessary to clean the handpan with a microfiber cloth to remove any impurities. You can then apply the product with a soft cloth, distributing the oil evenly. It is recommended to apply it at least once a month.
